Kristine Jorgensen (University of Bergen senior lecturer) today published a study for Gamasutra which discussed whether a traditional Heads-Up-Display took the gamer out of the constructed narrative of the game and whether that hinders a gamer's experience. Her methodology was to sample 22 random gamers who played one or all of four games: Diablo II, The Sims 2, Crysis and Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars and then interview them about their experience. The results were broken down into four broad categories, arranged on a continuum.
