With final pre-orders in the Americas hitting 2.8 million units and a further 1.7 million pre-orders across Europe, Call of Duty: Black Ops has posted a final pre-order number identical to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 this time last year. With over 4.5 million worldwide pre-orders in total, Black Ops will undoubtedly be the most successful title of 2010 but can it actually surpass Modern Warfare 2 in terms of overall sales?
This is a difficult question to answer and has had analysts divided. On one hand, the early pre-order pace of Black Ops as monitored here at VGChartz was comfortably ahead of Modern Warfare 2 at the same point in time. Closer to launch, the gap has got smaller to the point where both games are equal just before launch. With this being the case, we expect Black Ops to fall further behind in week one and come in about 5-10% smaller than the 6.5 million sales posted in week one for Modern Warfare 2...
